Canadiens Vs. Bruins, Game 1: Gionta Scores To Give Montreal 1-0 Lead After One

It took exactly 2:46 for the Canadiens and Bruins series to get started as Brian Gionta scored to give Montreal a 1-0 lead after the first period.

Gionta took a cross ice pass from forward Scott Gomez that found Bruins’ goaltender Tim Thomas out of position and Gionts found the back of the net. The Bruins have had a few chances in this game, most notably a Brad Marchand chance from the side of the net that Carey Price got back in time for.

The Bruins and Canadiens are even in shots through the first period with eight shots a piece. Boston’s Brad Marchand leads all players in the game with three shots in the period. Montreal’s Carey Price is pitching the shutout in the first period, stopping all eight shots, while Tim Thomas has seven saves thus far in the period.

These two teams have kept the physical play to the legal hitting with each team only taking two minor penalties each. With all of the history in the regular season series between the teams, expect something to happen at some point in the series.
