There was no comeback in order for the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 3.
Coyotes Vs. Red Wings, Game 3: Detroit Overpowers Phoenix Yet Again, Grabs 3-0 Series Edge
After storming back from a 4-0 deficit in Game 2 before falling just short, the Coyotes couldn't muster much at all against the Red Wings on Monday night as they returned home to Jobing.com Arena. Detroit jumped out to an early lead on goals from Ruslan Salei and Drew Miller in the first three minutes of the game, and from that point, never looked back.
Valterri Filppula scored early in the second period before the Coyotes got on the board via a power play goal from David Schlemko midway through the second, but any hopes of a comeback from that point were quickly squashed when Johan Franzen made the score 4-1 just 45 seconds into the third.
In all, the Coyotes just couldn't match up with the Wings. They've needed Ilya Bryzgalov to step up and carry a big load. He's been unable to do so. They've needed big games from Keith Yandle, and that hasn't happened. Offensively, Shane Doan can't do it all, but it looks like the team is asking him to do that.
Meanwhile, the Red Wings just look effortless, and Pavel Datsyuk has made the Coyotes look like the Washington Generals for much of the series. If that happens in Game 4, we could very easily have a sweep on our hands.
