The San Jose Sharks had a one goal lead heading into the third period against the Los Angeles Kings. They finished the period with a three goal lead as Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, and Torrey Mitchell each score to give San Jose a 6-3 win over the Kings.
Sharks Vs. Kings, Game 4: Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, And Torrey Mitchell Ices Game For San Jose; Wins 6-3
Thornton scored 2:28 into the period as Patrick Marleau occupied both of the Kings defenders behind the net which allowed Thornton to come to the front of the net and easily beat Jonathan Quick. Joe Pavelski scored 56 seconds later for the Sharks second goal of the period. After an offensive delay, Torrey Mitchell scored at the 11:42 mark of the third as he was able to deflect a loose rebound into the net.
The Kings were able to close the gap down to three goals at the 13:11 mark of the third as Alexei Ponikarovsky tipped a Jack Johnson shot past San Jose goaltender Antti Niemi. The lone goal was just too little, too late for the Kings though.
The Kings outshot the Sharks 12-4 in the third period and 38-27 overall in the game. Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick with only 21 saves in the losing effort while Sharks goaltender Antti Niemi made 35 saves in the win.
