Bruins Vs. Canadiens, Game 6: Montreal Forces Game 7 With 2-1 Victory

The Montreal Canadiens have won their first home game of their series, 2-1, against the Boston Bruins to force a Game 7 on Wednesday night.

The Canadiens thought they had started the game off on the right note with a Brian Gionta goal, but it was waived off after referee Kevin Pollock lost sight of the puck from across the rink and blew the play dead. Shortly after he blew the whistle, Gionta got the puck and scored what would have been an easy goal. This infuriated the Bell Centre patrons who started pelting the ice with anything they could get their hands on which caused a few minute delay in the game.

After the rink was cleaned up, the Canadiens actually ended up taking the lead at the 10:07 mark of the first period. Michael Cammalleri scored a on five on three powerplay for Montreal from above the left faceoff dot in the offensive zone. The Bruins penalties came from a too many men bench minor and then three seconds later, Dennis Seidenberg slashed a Canadiens player's stick in two coming off the faceoff.

The Bruins started the scoring in the second period rather quickly. The aforementioned Seidenberg was able to beat Carey Price for the lone goal of the game within the first minute of the second period. The assists on the goal came from Chris Kelly and Rich Peverley.

The Canadiens answered the tying goal with another five on three powerplay goal of their own. Brian Gionta reclaimed the goal that was taken away from him in the first period. Gionta gathered a rebound off of a Scott Gomez shot in front of the net and just put the puck past goaltender Tim Thomas.

The Bruins outshot the Canadiens 32-27 in the game, but Montreal goaltender Carey Price looked fantastic throughout the game making 31 saves in the win. Boston’s Tim Thomas made 25 saves in the losing effort.

Game 7 will be at 7:00 p.m. Eastern on Wednesday night. For more information on this game, please visit our Canadiens site, Habs Eyes On The Prize, and our Bruins site, Stanley Cup Of Chowder. For more information on this series, check out our series page.
