Some sad news just released this Thursday, as the NHL announced the passing of E.J. McGuire, their head of Central Scouting. He succumbed to cancer at the age of 58.

The statement via the League:
“The National Hockey League was privileged to benefit from EJ’s expertise and enthusiasm, both of which were limitless. EJ loved scouting games and loved the internal debates over the strengths and weaknesses of Entry Draft prospects. The way he ran Central Scouting made it vitally important to every one of our Clubs.”
McGuire served as a coach at the collegiate, junior and AHL levels was an assistant coach with the Flyers and Blackhawks, and was a scout for the Senators.
As the head of Central Scouting, he would appear often on NHL Network, giving hockey fans an inside view into prospects that they may not have known about beforehand. His personality and ability to explain an almost different universe of hockey -- that of junior and college prospects -- to strictly NHL fans, will be hard to replace.
He will be missed by the hockey world.
