Sharks Vs. Canucks, Game 1: Henrik Sedin Scores Game Winner; Vancouver Wins 3-2

In three of the four regular season games the Sharks and Canucks played this season, the winner won by one goal. Game one of the Western Conference Finals are no different as the Canucks take a 1-0 lead in the series with their 3-2 victory.

The Canucks started the third much like they did in the second, only later. Kevin Bieksa rifled a shot past Antti Niemi to tie the game at two goals a piece at the 7:02 mark of the period. Bieksa received the pass from Alex Burrows who gained entry into the offensive zone and circled behind the net. From behind the net, Burrows found Bieksa in front of the net and hit him squarely with the pass.

1:19 later in the period, the Canucks got their first lead of the game on the powerplay. Henrik Sedin, he of only one goal in the playoffs heading into this game, scored the go ahead goal to give the Canucks a 3-2 lead. Sedin received a pass from Christian Ehrhoff and beat Niemi with his backhand.

Vancouver looked like the better team for much of this game, but couldn’t overcome some miscues until late in the third period. The Luongo miscue at the end of the first period could have been a momentum killer had the team not scored early in the second to revive the crowd back into the game. The Canucks outshot the Sharks in every period and finished the third period with a wide margin of

Roberto Luongo made 26 saves in the win for the Canucks while Antti Niemi made 35 saves in the losing effort. Each goaltender had their own miscues in playing the puck, but each made some incredible saves to keep their teams in the game.

The Sharks will look to even the series on Wednesday night at 9:00 p.m. Eastern. For more information on this game, please visit our Sharks site, Fear The Fin, and our Canucks site, Nucks Misconduct.
