Canucks Vs. Sharks, Game 3: Penalty Filled Second Period Doesn’t Lead To Any More Scoring
The story of the second period wasn't the fact that anyone scored but the constant stream of players to the penalty box from both teams. The Canucks started it by giving up three straight powerplays with Aaron Rome taking a hooking penalty at the 3:20 mark of the period and Kevin Bieksa taking two straight penalties, one for hooking and one for cross checking. The Sharks couldn't capitalize on any of the powerplays making them two for six in the game on the man advantage.
The Sharks then decided to try and get the Canucks back in the game by taking a bunch of penalties of their own. San Jose committed three penalties in 2:05 and gave the Canucks 1:55 of five on three powerplay time. The Canucks couldn’t seem to capitalize on any of their powerplay time and the score is still 3-0 in the favor of the Sharks.
With all of that powerplay time between the two teams, the Sharks outshot the Canucks 14-13 in the second period to bring the total shots to 30-21 in the favor of San Jose.
