The Vancouver Canucks played Game 3 exactly like the San Jose Sharks did in Game 2 as they completely lost their composure and gave up nine power plays. The Sharks were able to capitalize on the Canucks penalty parade to the tune of three power play goals in their 4-3 victory in Game 3.
Canucks Vs. Sharks, Game 3: San Jose’s Three Power Play Goals Leads To 4-3 Victory
Patrick Marleau scored two goals including the opening goal for the Sharks on the powerplay. Ryan Clowe and Dan Boyle accounted for the two other goals for the Sharks while Alex Burrows, Dan Hamhuis, and Kevin Bieksa all scored a goal for the Canucks. San Jose's Joe Thornton didn't find the back of the net but did finish the game with three assists.
The Sharks and Canucks finished the game with 55 combined penalty minutes and 26:09 of powerplay time. San Jose ended up with nine powerplays and converted on three of them while the Canucks had five powerplays and converted twice. The Canucks undisciplined play in this game was what ultimately cost them the win.
A scary moment for the Canucks at the end of the game as San Jose's Jamie McGinn rammed Aaron Rome of the Canucks face first into the boards. Rome laid on the ice for a few minutes before being helped off with the assistance of the trainers. McGinn was given a five minute boarding major and a game misconduct.
With all of the powerplay time in the game, the Sharks ended up outshooting the Canucks 38-30 and at one point in the first period San Jose had a 15-1 advantage in shots. This is the first game that the Sharks have outshot the Canucks in the series.
Game 4 is Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm Eastern.
