Taylor Hall Injury: Edmonton Oilers Forward Cut By Skate During Warmups

Taylor Hall took a hockey skate to the forehead on Tuesday night in Columbus. Back in Edmonton on Thursday, the Oilers forward finally caught up with the team’s friendly public relations staff. So, Taylor, how are you feeling?

Following the incident, the Oilers are rethinking the policy. Should players be forced to wear helmets during warmups? Via the Edmonton Sun, here’s general manager Steve Tambellini:

It’s not as if injuries happen in warmups all the time. In fact, it’s actually a bit surprising that injuries don’t happen in warmups all the time, with so many pucks flying around and so many players in such a small area. Is a freak injury enough to cause a real change in the policy?

Imagine you’re at work, maybe as a construction worker plying your trade along the side of a highway. You’re minding your business, just going about your average work day, when suddenly, a car slams into the median that sits between you and the traffic whizzing past. It spins, flips over and comes to a skidding halt 20 feet away from you.

The second-year Edmonton Oiler was just going about his business in warmups at Nationwide Arena in Columbus when he lost an edge, fell into the legs of a teammate and tumbled to the corner. The collision started a chain reaction, and that chain reaction ended with Hall taking a skate blade to the face.
