Wednesday was a light, four-game night in the NHL, where the Capitals exacted revenge on Rene Bourque and his Montreal Canadiens. Elsewhere, Anaheim kept up their winning ways, Florida fell to Colorado and Chicago wiped away the Sabres.

The fight was more or less a draw as both Hendricks and Bourque landed several shots, but Bourque might be considered the winner for the sole purpose that he fell on top of Hendricks at center ice before the officials pulled them apart. Either way, the Caps stood up for Backstrom and themselves, which is really all that matters.

Florida was given a gift late in the opening period. With Shane O’Brien in the penalty box for roughing and the Panthers buzzing around the Colorado net, it appeared that in his haste to clear the puck out of harms way, defenseman Ryan O’Byrne actually accidentally tapped the puck past Giguere and into the far corner and into his own net. Goc was credited with his fifth of the year, giving Florida a 1-0 lead at 14:51 of the opening stanza.
