In only makes sense that in Sidney Crosby's absence, the Pittsburgh Penguins' second-most important player fills the void.

Evgeni Malkin continued his hot streak Thursday with a two-goal performance as the Penguins defeated the East-leading New York Rangers 4-1.

Both of Malkin's goal came in the third period as Pittsburgh put the game out of reach. It has been a week full of third period performances for Geno; he had a hat trick in the third period of Sunday's 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. In general, Malkin has seven goals and two assists in his last four games. Since Crosby left the Penguins' lineup on December 5 after experiencing a setback in his return from a concussion, Malkin has 15 goals and 15 assists in 18 games.

With numbers like that, it should come as no surprise that Malkin now leads the NHL with 54 points. I guess you could say that he’s Mal-Content.
