The Dallas Stars have signed defenseman Al Goligoski to a four-year contract extension worth $18.5 million (via Defending Big D). The contract represents a significant raise for Goligoski, who was scheduled to make about $2.75 million this year, which was the final year of his contract. This deal will keep him under the Stars' control until 2016.
Alex Goligoski Signs 4-Year, $18.5 Million Contract Extension With Dallas Stars
Dallas Stars give defenseman Alex Goligoski a four-year contract extension.
Goligoski has been one of the Stars' best defenseman since coming to Dallas from the Pittsburgh Penguins in a trade last year. In just 23 games with the Stars in 2010-11, Goligoski posted 15 points (five goals, 10 assists). He finished the season with a career high 46 points and +20 rating.
This year, he leads the Stars defenseman in ice time, he leads in the team in power-play time and he has the second most points among Stars defenseman. This all has Defending Big D’s Brad Gardner feeling pretty good about the move:
That's one big RFA down and one to go - a big one in Jamie Benn, but this is a very positive sign for the Stars down the road and one less thing to worry about in the off-season.
