Derek Dorsett, no stranger to the art of agitation in the NHL, has gone public with what he feels is a grave disservice to the professionalism of the sport. After Dorsett landed a fairly raucous hit on Alex Ovechkin in the second period of last night's game, Dorsett claims the star forward then spit in his face during the ensuing brouhaha.
Derek Dorsett Accuses Alex Ovechkin Of Spitting; Ovechkin Denies Everything
“That’s why I was yelling at the ref so much and yelling at him in the penalty box,” Dorsett said. “I find that pretty disrespectful. That’s probably one of the most disrespectful things someone can do, especially a guy who is the best player in the league. It’s classless. He’s supposed to be a role model for the game. It’s unbelievable.”
Ovechkin, of course, denies anything of the sort happened.
“No, no, no. I don’t know. Show me that moment, I want to see it. No.”
The good news is there is video of the incident, which obviously proves Ovechkin guilty, right? Right?
While Dorsett certainly looks upset after he and Ovechkin jawed at each other, there’s nothing that even suggests a big loogy was flung by the Russian star. Dorsett is talking to anyone around him that will listen and while I doubt he’s outright lying, it’s going to be tough to prove that Ovechkin actually slung some spit, on purpose, in his direction.
