Fans of hockey will be stunned to learn that Columbus Blue Jackets forward Jeff Carter is injured. No, he didn't injure that thing. Or that other thing. Or that one thing he injured last year. This time, it's an entirely new and fun kind of injury. Carter suffered a separated shoulder during his first shift of the third period in the Blue Jackets' game against the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday night, picking up the injury when Ducks defenseman Francois Beauchemin hit him with a big blindside check.

Jeff Carter has separated his shoulder and will miss some time for the Columbus Blue Jackets. How much time he will miss is yet to be determined.
Said Blue Jackets coach Scott Arniel, “We’ll see where he’s at and we’ll get more detail tomorrow.” Carter could just be out for a few games or for a long period of time, which is now the most Jeff Carter thing possible. Carter has been a lethal goal-scorer in the league when healthy, but he’s been anything but this year. He’s played in 30 of the Jackets’ 39 games -- presumably playing at less than 100 percent in quite a few of them -- and has only scored 10 goals on the year.
