There’s no such thing as an Eastern Conference or a Western Conference at the NHL’s All-Star Weekend anymore, but the coaches of each All-Star team are still based on the conferences.
NHL All-Star Game 2012: John Tortorella, Claude Julien To Coach; Other Spots Determined Monday
By virtue of holding the East's top record -- in terms of points percentage -- by the end of Monday's action, New York Rangers head coach John Tortorella will be behind one bench at the game later this month in Ottawa. He actually clinched that job with his teams win on Friday.
Claude Julien will coach the other team, joined by his Boston Bruins assistant coaches. The Bruins coaching staff won the honor by hoisting the Stanley Cup last season.
The other coach will be determined on Monday night, when the Vancouver Canucks hit the ice in South Florida. With a Vancouver win, head coach Alain Vigneault will join Tortorella in coaching a team in Ottawa. Should the Canucks lose, either in regulation or overtime, the job will go to San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan.
