The popular EA Sports game’s update will allow gamers to add NHL players to their respective European team’s rosters.

With no end to the NHL lockout in sight, and players signing contracts with European clubs, even video games are being forced to adjust to the new professional hockey landscape. EA Sports announced Thursday that its popular NHL 13 game released an online roster update that will allow gamers to add duplicate NHL players to select European teams’ rosters.

The teams included in the update are as follows:

  • Czech Extraliga (ELH)
  • SM-Liiga, Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL)
  • Elitserien (SEL)
  • National League A (NLA)

Gameplay in NHL 13 features five European leagues, 66 European teams and over 2100 players representing 26 countries across Europe. By duplicating NHL players in the latest online roster update, gamers could conceivably pit the Philadelphia Flyers and center -- and NHL 13 cover athlete -- Claude Giroux against a duplicate Giroux and his European club, Eisbaren Berlin (DEL) in online play.

A step-by-step guide to the online roster update and a full list of players involved in the update are available at EA Sports' NHL 13 website.
