NHL lockout update: League, players to resume negotiations on Friday

The NHL and the NHL Players’ Association continue collective bargaining negotiations, although, neither side is saying much publicly.

The Players’ Association made two proposals on Wednesday, and the sides will meet again on Friday. After airing their differences and publicly discussing proposals earlier, both the NHL and NHLPA have been tight-lipped recently. The lack of public discussion could be a good sign for the negotiations.

Earlier in the lockout, NHL Players’ Association executive director Donald Fehr held a press conference following negotiations to publicly ridicule the league executives. The recent silence from both sides is a stark contrast to earlier in the lockout.

While some progress appears to have been made, the two sides still have a long way to go. Negotiations continue to center around revenue sharing and the “Make-Whole” provision. The NHL canceled games through November 30 and admitted a full 82-game schedule will not be played. It’s unknown if some of the previously cancelled games could be rescheduled if an agreement was reached soon.
