NHL will reportedly cancel games through December 30

The NHL will cancel games through Dec. 30 as the long lockout marches along with no end in sight.

The NHL will reportedly cancel games through Dec. 30 on Monday, according to a report from TSN’s Darren Dreger.

The long NHL lockout marches along after negotiations failed last week. There was some optimism during the talks and some thought a deal was close, but negotiations broke off on Thursday after the NHL rejected the latest offer by the NHLPA. Frustration levels have reached a new high, and more high profile players may soon be looking to play overseas. There are currently no new negotiations scheduled, but the NHL and NHLPA are in discussions to set more up.

Time is currently running out to save this season, which will be much-shortened if a deal is eventually reached in the next few weeks. If no agreement is reached in time, it will be the second lost season under commissioner Gary Bettman. The lockout that cancelled the 2004-05 NHL season marked the first time a full season was wiped out by a labor squabble.
