Puck the Media Radio, Episode 4: You can play, Guy Serota

In Episode 4 of Puck The Media Radio, You Can Play co-founder Patrick Burke talks about the success of the campaign and whether or not the lockout is having an impact on that progress. Also, Guy Serota jokes are in order.

Welcome to another new episode of Puck the Media Radio, as we return for 4 weeks of December shows.

As always, we record at the radio studio on the campus of Caldwell College. The show is commerical-free, save for a brief message on behalf of the school. Special thanks to Nick Amabile for his technical assistance.

Once again, a bit of a narrative-less show. We’ll discuss the NHL’s attempts at mediation in the labor bargaining process, as well as a slightly more serious topic, with some headlines at the top of the show.

At 6:23, Patrick Burke from the You Can Play Project joins the show. We will discuss the importance of straight “allies”, whether or not the lockout has tempered YCP’s progress, and some of the progress made by other sports in terms of curbing homophobic language. Enjoy the segment and please give what you can (be it time or money) to YCP.

At 18:50, Katie Baker from Grantland is our guest. We talk about her trip to the University of Minnesota, make jokes about lockout mediation, and talk a little bit about her sidegig as America’s Wedding Shaman (Shawoman?).

At 36:27, Jesse Spector from The Sporting News joins me. We get real punchy about Guy Serota, and just punchy in general. I think it’s safe to say we both want to punch things involved in this lockout. We also discuss whether or not you should fully buy into those Forbes franchise values.

Thank you for taking the time to listen. Any questions, comments, or complaints? Feel free to throw them in the comment section, contact me on Twitter, or send me an e-mail at stevemlepore@gmail.com. See you next week!
