NHL Trade Rumors: Roman Hamrlik Reportedly Up For Grabs, But ‘Price Is High’

The Washington Capitals have put defenseman Roman Hamrlik on the trade block, according to a report from RDS. But that doesn't mean the 37-year-old will come cheap in a market that's seemingly in love with defensemen.

Hamrlik has another season on his current deal, which hits the cap at $3.5 million per season. It makes sense that the Capitals would ask a high price off the bat, simply trying to feel out the market for Hamrlik, but we’ll see how that changes as the Feb. 27 deadline approaches.

Hamrlik hasn’t played against top competition for the Caps this season, but he’s a physical defenseman and has been solid for Washington of late. He can play in all situations and can eat up plenty of minutes, so he’ll definitely be a hot commodity for a number of playoff-bound teams. Considering George McPhee’s bunch could be playoff bound themselves, it’ll be interesting to see what they try to get back in a deal.
