The Los Angeles Kings scored four goals just a day before against the Phoenix Coyotes in a 5-4 shootout loss. It seemed they used all their scoring powers Tuesday night, as they returned to their scoring woes, losing 4-1 to the Colorado Avalanche -- on national television Wednesday.

The Kings showed everyone just how much they struggle to score on national television, losing to the Colorado Avalanche, 4-1. It helped in the Avs’ favor that they looked more awake and had the help of Semyon Varlamov.
Mark Olver, Paul Stastny and Jay McClement scored three goals in the first period for Colorado to send the Avalanche out to an early 3-0 lead. You'd think from the grit the Avs played with, they were closer to a playoff spot than the Kings were, even after Darryl Sutter's calling out of the team's top two goal scorers, Anze Kopitar and Dustin Brown (via ProHockeyTalk). Still, the Kings couldn't muster much of anything, and after Stastny scored again L.A. switched out Jonathan Quick for Jonathan Bernier entering the third period.
Bernier held the Avalanche off the board in the final period, and the Kings were able to get Dustin Brown's tip-in to count for a goal on their end, but as for many nights, one goal has seemed to be the quota for L.A. as they finished off the 4-1 loss.
Surprisingly, the Kings are still in eighth place due to the light night of hockey. But Colorado is steadily creeping up on the final playoff seed, as the Avs are now only two points out. The Avalanche can thank Semyon Varlamov's 32 saves and possibly the addition of Steve Downie, who was acquired in a trade Tuesday afternoon.
