The sketchy hockey injury machine has been fired up and is going full steam for the Washington Capitals. Alex Ovechkin left the Caps' game against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday with what looked like an injury. At the time, Dale Hunter called it an equipment issue. Ovechkin didn't practice on Tuesday and had limited participation in practice on Wednesday before the Caps declared him out of Wednesday's game against the Ottawa Senators with a 'lower-body injury'.

Ovechkin did some light shooting and skating in practice on Thursday morning, but there is no official diagnosis available at the moment, nor is there a timetable for his return. The good news for the Caps is that if he’s shooting and skating, he probably won’t be out long. The other good news for the Caps is that the Southeast Division is really bad, so they could drop five games in a row and still be very much in the playoff race.
