Maple Leafs Trade Rumors: Brian Burke Won’t ‘Blow It Up’ At Deadline

Of course the Toronto Maple Leafs have kicked the tires on a Rick Nash trade, just as they've toyed with the idea of sending guys like Luke Schenn elsewhere in hope of some great return. But as the 2012 NHL Trade Deadline approaches, it's looking more and more like Brian Burke and the Leafs will stay relatively quiet come 3 p.m. Monday.

Mikhail Grabovski won't be going anywhere, despite the news that contract talks have stalled a bit. Via the Toronto Sun:

Burke did confirm reports this week that the Mikhail Grabovski contract hit a snag - likely when Ales Hemsky and Tuomu Ruutu signed in the neighbourhod [sic] of $5 million a season. But he added that talks have not reached a state of animosity with agent Gary Greenstin that could see the potential UFA get a ticket out of town this week.

Burke told CBC’s Hockey Night In Canada on Saturday night that he won’t “blow it up” in an attempt to squeeze into the playoffs. He’s still searching the market for a goaltender and something could develop on that front as the deadline nears, but it doesn’t appear likely that a big move will occur with the Leafs. At least not at this stage.
