NHL Trade Deadline Chatter Quiet, According To Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke

The NHL trade deadline is quickly approaching -- just 17 days until Feb. 26 -- but according to one general manager, things are quiet. Almost too quiet?

Not that there’s anything necessarily wrong with waiting until closer to the deadline, mind you. We see that just about every year anyway, especially when there are 15-plus deals on deadline day.

Burke’s point is well-taken, however. It does seem as though most teams are unsure of their status at this point, and that they can’t decide whether or not they’re going to be buyers or sellers at the deadline. It seems that there’s a large chunk of teams that falls into that boat, and they’re going to wait until the last minute to see if things shake out for them one way or another.

That’s what happens when there’s parity in the league, and that’s why we see so many deals at the last possible second on deadline day.
