Tyler Myers Suspended 3 Games For Scott Gomez Hit

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers was suspended three games Tuesday for an illegal hit on Montreal Canadiens forward Scott Gomez on Monday evening, the NHL announced. The hit originally resulted in a minor penalty for boarding, but as NHL vice president Brendan Shanahan explains in the video below, Myers received additional discipline for injuring Gomez on the play:

The suspension will cost Myers $14,189.19, according to NHL.com. The Sabres will be without Myers for Wednesday's home game against the Colorado Avalanche, as well as Buffalo's brief trip to Florida to face the Panthers on Saturday and the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday. Ironically enough, his first game back will be at home against the Canadiens on Wednesday, March 21.
