As the St. Louis Blues closed out the Western Canadian portion of their road trip, they came close in the chase for first place overall, but the Vancouver Canucks remained on top with a 2-0 victory.

The Blues came close, but they were unable to overtake the Canucks for first-overall after a 2-0 loss. The loss drops St. Louis under Detroit in the standings.

As expected, it was a close, defense-oriented game from the get-go with a playoff-type atmosphere. For most of the match, the Blues dictated the flow of the game, as physical and grinding hockey is a style that they have perfected this season. The Canucks were limited to just 23 shots on net, while the Blues got 29 of their own.
However, a rare defensive mistake by St. Louis gave Vancouver more time in the Blues' zone, and as Dan Hamhuis' shot missed the net, Alexandre Burrows was in the right place for the unclaimed puck and buried it past Brian Elliott -- who, otherwise, had a solid game. Unfortunately, for Elliott and his team, that one blemish was enough for the win, as Roberto Luongo matched Elliot in the defensive duel. Chris Higgins tacked on the empty-netter with 39 seconds left to cement the win.
Vancouver's win keeps the Canucks number one overall in the standings with 90 points, while the loss for the Blues drops them to second in the Central under the Detroit Red Wings.
