Dave Stubbs of the Montreal Gazette reports that there is early good news regarding Beliveau.

Élise Béliveau, the wife of the 80-year-old Hall of Famer, said Thursday afternoon that her husband is speaking, laughing and regaining some strength while he undergoes tests, still under close observation by specialists.

Beliveau played with the Canadiens from 1950-1971. He won 10 Stanley Cups as a player and captured another seven Stanley Cup victories as an executive with the team. His 17 individual Stanley Cup victories are an all-time record that is unlikely to be eclipsed any time soon. He was elected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1972.
