The NHL announced on Wednesday that Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan was given a three-game suspension for elbowing Dallas Stars forward Jamie Benn during the second period of their game on Tuesday night.
Shane Doan Suspended Three Games For Elbowing Jamie Benn
The NHL has announced the suspension of Phoenix Coyotes forward Shane Doan following an elbowing incident on Tuesday.
Benn picked up the puck behind the net and proceeded to move it out of the Stars’ defensive zone. As he turned up-ice, Doan skated toward him, extended his elbow and planted it in Benn’s face. Doan received a minor penalty for the incident.
As a result of this suspension, Doan, who was previously suspended for three games in October 2010, will lose $166,463.40, which goes into the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.

Shanahan mentions that the league accepts Doan’s assertion that he didn’t have malicious intent, but that it was a reckless move nonetheless. Also, the league took into account the fact that Doan was just fined for a boarding incident several days ago.
Doan will be eligible to return to the ice on Thursday, March 29, against the San Jose Sharks.
