Daniel Alfredsson Injury: Senators Captain Leaves Game After Carl Hagelin Hit

Daniel Alfredsson took a nasty hit to the head from Carl Hagelin and left Game 2 between the Senators and Rangers.

Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson left the ice and did not return to Game 2 between the Ottawa Senators and New York Rangers. It's all Carl Hagelin's fault after the young New York forward took a run at Alfredsson in the corner, connecting with an elbow to the head.

Absolutely brutal. If Alfredsson is out for any prolonged period of time with a head injury, it’ll be a devastating blow to the Senators’ chances in this first-round series. Hagelin was given a five-minute major for elbowing on the play, but he remained in the game for the duration.

It's been an awfully physical affair between the two teams Saturday night, and this hit on Alfredsson may not have even been the most egregious of rule violations. Not when Matt Carkner sucker-punched a guy in the face. Still, it doesn't excuse a brutal hit by Hagelin, nor does it leave us any less concerned for Alfredsson's condition.
