Although his team didn't make the Frozen Four, Minnesota-Duluth's Jack Connolly won the 2012 Hobey Baker Award, making him college hockey's player of the year. Other finalists were Maine's Spencer Abbott and Colgate's Austin Smith.
Hobey Baker Award 2012: Jack Connolly Named College Hockey’s Top Player
Jack Connolly of Minnesota-Duluth is the winner of the 2012 Hobey Baker Award, given to America’s best college hockey player.

Connolly, a Duluth native, is the fifth Bulldog to win the Hobey Baker and the first since Junior Lessard in 2004, giving Minnesota-Duluth more winners than any other school, breaking a tie with Minnesota. Connolly led the nation with 60 points - 20 goals and 40 assists - and was the WCHA Player of the Year, leading Minnesota to the final eight of the Division I Men's Ice Hockey Tournament, where they fell 4-0 to Boston College.
The senior was undrafted in the NHL Draft, but he still has an opportunity to go pro, potentially in Europe. His brother, Chris, was a senior for Boston University this season.
