Florida Panthers Vs. New Jersey Devils, NHL Playoffs 2012: Complete Series Coverage

If you’re a Panthers fan, you’re probably well aware - and/or have heard 4 million times during this series - that the team which won its division for the first time in franchise history hasn’t won a playoff series since 1996. They led 2-1 and 3-2, and relinquished both leads. But luckily for the Panthers, the series shifts back to home ice for tonight’s game.

Here’s the info on how to watch tonight’s pivotal Game 7:

Team president Michael Yormark made note of the ban via his Twitter feed, and it was a little odd when he blamed fans of the Devils for the rats that flew onto the ice surface in the middle of play.

But the Devils have been dominant in their two wins, grabbing Game 1 with a 3-2 victory in Sunrise in which they never trailed and shutting out Florida 4-0 in Game 4. Where this series goes next is really anyone’s guess.

Florida fell behind 3-0 to New Jersey on Tuesday in the first 6:16 of play, but the Panthers scrapped back to make it 3-2 before the end of the period. Then the Panthers clicked off the last two of their four unanswered goals early in the second period and held on for the 4-3 win.

Four Game 4s dot the Thursday night schedule in the 2012 NHL Playoffs. And the early window will be crowded, with pucks dropping in three cities within an hour of each other.

For Game 2, the Panthers finally seemed ready to play at the same competitive level as their opponent, and that may be a bad sign for the Devils.

The bigger story, though, was the way Kevin Dineen had his Florida club pursuing the puck throughout the game. Aggressively fighting for the puck in the neutral zone and chasing turnovers for the full 60 minutes, it was a total 180 compared to the club that seemed totally overwhelmed and exposed through most of Friday night.

The two teams split the season series 2-2 with the Devils needing a shootout to prevail on one occasion, but the teams’ goal differentials and recent performances make the Devils look like stronger favorites than the head-to-head indicates they should be. New Jersey is 7-2-1 in their last 10 games, while Florida is 2-3-5.
