Coyotes Vs. Kings, 2012 NHL Playoffs Game 2: Kings Extend Lead To 3-0 After 2 Periods

The Los Angeles Kings extended their lead to 3-0 over the Phoenix Coyotes in Game 2 of the Western Conference Finals. Jeff Carter snapped off a wrist shot at 4:47 to score the Kings' second goal of the game. Dustin Penner picked up the primary assist while Mike Richards gained the secondary assist.

Then at 18:49, Anze Kopitar received the puck from Justin Williams and fired off a shot to the far side of the net for the Kings' third goal of the game. He threaded the puck in-between one of his own players and goalie Mike Smith. Kopitar scored that on the power play and now has five postseason goals.

Things got heated toward the end of the period. The Coyotes' Shane Doan was ejected from the game and received a five-minute major after he hit into Trevor Lewis, who was facing the boards while trying to get the puck out of the corner. Lewis' nose had a gash on it and started to bleed.

The other hit came from Phoenix goalie Mike Smith when he delivered a whack to Dustin Brown's backside. Both received penalties: Smith for the hit and Brown for embellishing after the hit.

The Kings hold a 1-0 series lead and are just 20 minutes away from a 2-0 lead.

UPDATE: Jeff Carter was later credited with the third goal, as the puck deflected off his shin guard before going into the net.
