The Vancouver Canucks signed head coach Alain Vigneault to a contract extension Wednesday, the team announced. Team president and general manager Mike Gillis called Vigneault one of the "premier coaches" in the NHL in his statement:

Alain Vigneault signed an extension as head coach of the Vancouver Canucks on Wednesday. He has compiled a 287-155-50 record with the team over the last six seasons.
“Alain has established himself as one of the premiere coaches in the National Hockey League,” said Gillis. “He has demonstrated a commitment to winning that has led to back-to-back Presidents’ Trophies and we are confident his dedication and hard work will continue to yield positive results. Alain has built a foundation of winning with this franchise and I feel he can continue to build on that foundation to achieve our ultimate goal.”
Vigneault has helmed the Canucks for the last six years, compiling a 287-155-50 overall record. Over that span, he has helped lead Vancouver to two Presidents' Trophies given to the team with the best record during the regular season. The Canucks led the league with 111 points this season, but suffered a five-game series loss to the Los Angeles Kings during the first round of the 2012 NHL Playoffs.
