Winter Classic 2013: Michigan House Votes To Allow Alcohol Sales; State Senate The Next Hurdle

The 2013 NHL Winter Classic will be held on New Year's Day at Michigan Stadium, the usual home of the Michigan Wolverines. The Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs will face off in the league's annual outdoor games. The city and state have to hold a special vote to decide the matter, but the good news is this: it looks as though there will be beer.

USA Today reports that the Michigan House has held a vote and will allow alcohol to be sold at the game, but state senate approval is needed before it become official.

The outdoor game between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs is scheduled for Jan. 1, 2013. The league made the sale of alcohol a condition of approving the venue. Alcohol is not permitted to be sold to the public during Michigan football games.

Hockey fans planning on attending the game will certainly welcome another way to keep warm.
