New York Rangers Can’t Think About 1994 Eastern Finals

Since the Devils won Game 5 on Wednesday night, all we've heard are comparisons to 1994, when the Rangers lost Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Finals against New Jersey before winning Games 6 and 7 on their way to an eventual Stanley Cup.

But for Rangers fans at Blueshirt Banter, this game isn’t about 1994, and that year shouldn’t even be part of the discussion as the team prepares for a do-or-die game at Prudential Center on Friday night. The teams are different and the time is different, but at the same time, the teams are similar in how Rangers fans see them.

I laugh when I see people counting the Rangers out. I really do. This is a special team, and the best part -- and also the biggest difference between this team and that 1994 team -- is that win or lose Friday, this season would be a massive success and these young core players will only get better.

But tonight isn’t about the future. Tonight is about a team that has all the ability in the world to win another two elimination games, even if one is on the road.
