Just days after leaving his job as St. Louis Blues assistant coach, Scott Mellanby has been hired by the Montreal Canadiens.

Getty Images “I would like to thank the Blues organization for giving me the opportunity to coach in the National Hockey League,” said Mellanby in a press release. “After two years of coaching I realize my passion is in the hockey operations department, which I would like to pursue. I have enjoyed my time here as a player and as a coach and wish nothing but the best for the Blues and their fans.”
Mellanby has been an assistant coach in St. Louis for two seasons. He began serving under head coach Davis Payne, who was fired early in the 2011-12 season. Mellanby continued to work under head coach Ken Hitchcock for the remainder of the year, helping the Blues to a No. 2 finish in the Western Conference and a Central Division title.
