Stanley Cup Finals TV Ratings: Game 6 Perks Up Big, Overnights Up From 2011

Game 6 was easily the most-watched game of the series.

The Stanley Cup Finals finally got a night to themselves, and actually saw large numbers for the Los Angeles Kings' coronation.

Game 6 drew a 4.0/7 overnight rating, up 3 percent from Game 6 of the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals. It was the first game of the series to see bigger numbers than last year’s. It was a growth of 35 percent from Game 5’s overnight, which was previously the highest of the series.

The Kings' Stanley Cup clinching drew a 13.6/25 in Los Angeles, meaning one in every four people with a television on in the market was watching the Kings emerge victorious. It was the highest-rated hockey game on record in Los Angeles, surpassing Game 7 of Devils vs. Ducks in 2003 (10.0/18). That's important for this hockey market as we go forward, hopefully even a few of them will stick around in years to come. Hopefully, NBC does the right thing and gives the Kings the exposure they deserve next year.

In New York, the game drew a 5.0/8, just shy of Game 1’s series high (5.1), and pretty impressive, considering the Devils were pretty much out of the game by the end of the first period.

Here’s the half-hour break-down of the overnight ratings:

8:00 p.m.: 3.1/ 6
8:30 p.m.: 3.8/ 6
9:00 p.m.: 3.5/ 6
9:30 p.m.: 4.3/ 7
10:00 p.m.: 4.1/ 7
10:30 p.m.: 5.0/ 8

There will be more info later today, stay tuned.
