As part of Wednesday night's 2012 NHL Awards ceremony, the league announced the winner of video-game maker EA's "NHL 13" Cover Vote contest. The winner of the season-long contest to determine which player would grace the next installment in EA's popular hockey franchise? Claude Giroux of the Philadelphia Flyers.
‘NHL 13’ Cover Vote: Claude Giroux Wins Over Pekka Rinne
The Philadelphia Flyers’ Claude Giroux will grace the cover of EA Sports’ “NHL 13,” winning the fan vote over the Nashville Predators’ Pekka Rinne.

As the alternate captain for the Flyers in his fourth full NHL season, the 24-year-old Giroux ascended from young player with heaps of potential into a budding star. He finished third in the NHL with 93 points, tallying 28 goals and 65 assists, and lead the Flyers to the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs.
The Tampa Bay Lightning's Steven Stamkos, who was the cover boy for "NHL 12," was on hand to announce the winner for this year's cover. Giroux ousted fellow finalist Nashville Predators goalie Pekka Rinne in the fan voting.
We all know about the “Madden” cover jinx, where a number of former and current NFL players fell victim to terrible injuries during the season in which they appeared on the cover of the popular video game. Let’s hope Giroux steers clear of such setbacks and continues his growth as a top-tier hockey player.
