The NHL Draft is underway in Pittsburgh and the New York Islanders and Anaheim Ducks have made the first trade of the evening. Defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky has been sent from the Ducks to the Islanders in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2013 NHL Draft.

Visnovsky, 35, has one year remaining on a five-year deal signed back in 2008. The deal comes with a salary cap hit of $5.6 million, but he earns just $3 million in this final year of his deal. He scored six goals and 21 assists in 68 games with the Ducks this past season.

He has a tendency to be a bit injury prone and missed 13 games after suffering a finger injury back in Dec. 2011. His size limits him a bit against bigger attacking forwards, but he’s a phenomenal power play weapon and helps considerably in the two-way game.
