The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Monday that Dallas Eakins has re-signed with the team's AHL affiliate, the Toronto Marlies. Eakins was considered a potential candidate in this year's NHL head coaching market, but is signed on to the Marlies for the next three years for now. Maple Leafs president and general manager Brian Burke praised Eakins in a statement.

“Dallas is a wonderful teacher for our players in the American Hockey League,” said Burke. “He has a great understanding of the game and what it takes to be a successful professional player, both on and off the ice. He’s a huge contributor to our overall hockey organization and we are pleased to have Dallas and the entire coaching staff under contract.”

Eakins took the Marlies to the AHL’s Calder Cup Finals as the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. He has spent the last seven years within the Maple Leafs’ organization, serving as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2008, and as director of player personnel during the 2008-09 season. He took over coaching the Marlies in August of 2009.
