The Detroit Red Wings brought back a player who helped them win a Stanley Cup and added a heavy hitter to boot on the first day of NHL free agency. They signed a pair of right wingers in Mikael Samuelsson and Jordin Tootoo.
Red Wings Sign Mikael Samuelsson, Jordin Tootoo
The Red Wings brought in two right wingers, including a familiar face for Detroit fans.

Samuelsson previously played in Detroit from 2005-2009, pitching in on the squad won the 2008 Stanley Cup, including a two-goal performance that gave the Red Wings a win in Game 1. He helped the Vancouver Canucks reach the finals in 2010, but this past season was traded to the Florida Panthers, where he had his least productive season in some time. Injuries held him to only 51 games and 31 points. At 35 years old, his career still has some gas in it. His deal is for two years and $6 million.
Tootoo has spent his entire career playing for the Nashville Predators, with a talent for being gritty and a reputation for being somewhat of an irritant. His deal is for three years and $5.7 million.
The Red Wings also added Swiss forward Damien Brunner on an entry-level contract.
