The Detroit Red Wings have reportedly offered 29-year-old defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo a contract that is worth $5 million over two years, this according to Brendan Savage of MLive.com. This two-year deal is an improvement of the original one-year offer that Colaiacovo received back on July 3 from the Red Wings, but the deal is a compromise because Colaiacovo has been looking for a three-year contract.

Colaiacovo has been the with St. Louis Blues over the past four years, where he averaged 27 points during that time, so he does have some offense to his game.

While Colaiacovo is not the top-end defenseman that the Red Wings are looking for, they are getting desperate at that position since they have already lost Nicklas Lidstrom to retirement and Brad Stuart to the San Jose Sharks.
