Buffalo Sabres defenseman Christian Ehroff has signed a deal to play with Krefeld Pinguine of the German elite league during the NHL lockout.

Ehrhoff began his career with Krefeld, playing with the German team from 1999-2003, when he signed with the San Jose Sharks. During the 2004-05 lockout Ehrhoff played with Cleveland Barons of the AHL rather than returning overseas. Ehrhoff signed with the Sabres during the 2011 offseason after scoring a career best 50 points with the Vancouver Canucks in 2010-11. In the 2011-12 season Ehrhoff scored five goals and dished out 27 assists in 66 games. He was scheduled to make $8 million this season with the Sabres in the second year of a 10-year, $40 million deal.
It is expected that Ehrhoff could play in his first game in Germany as early as Friday.
