Tampa Bay Lightning superstar forward Steven Stamkos is currently in talks to sign with HC Lugano during the current NHL lockout, according to 20 Minutes Online. HC Lugano is a National League A hockey team in Switzerland that has won seven championships, most recently in 2006.

Signing a NHL player during the lockout in Switzerland has proven to be a rather expensive undertaking, with Lugano one of the few teams that can afford the contractual obligations.

“It will be very expensive, said a person familiar with the matter. Just for insurance, it takes about 70,000 francs a month.”

The team has already signed Luca Sbisa of the Anaheim Ducks.

Stamkos has been one of the highest-scoring forwards in the NHL the past three seasons, putting up 60 goals and 97 points in in 2011-12 and was a finalist for the Hart Memorial Trophy.
