New York Rangers left wing Carl Hagelin has signed with his hometown team, Sodertalje, of the Swedish league HockeyAllsvenskan, according to ESPN New York's Katie Strang.

The 24-year-old Swede made waves in his first season in the NHL, scoring 14 goals and racking up 24 assists in 64 games played. Perhaps more notably, he won the fastest skater portion of the Skills Challenge at the NHL All-Star Game, recording the best final-round time in the history of the event. He also made headlines by serving a three-game suspension during the playoffs, after elbowing Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson in the head during Game 2 of the Rangers' first-round series loss.

Prior to his NHL debut, Hagelin played for the AHL’s Connecticut Whale after spending four years at the University of Michigan. Hagelin was drafted in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.

HockyAllsvenskan is a second-tier league in Sweden, one level below the Swedish Elite League.
