Phoenix Coyotes captain Shane Doan remains a free agent, but that doesn't mean he won't be returning to the Coyotes next season. Doan said Thursday he has a deal in place with the Coyotes and is only waiting for the sale of the team to re-sign with Phoenix.

Greg Jamison is in the process of acquiring the franchise from the NHL, and in an interview with XTRA 910, Doan said he will sign once the sale goes through. While the two sides have a deal in place, it’s still not a done yet. Doan wants to sign his deal before the current collective bargaining agreement expires on Sept. 15 and would sign elsewhere if the sale of the franchise hasn’t gone through.

“I will be signed by midnight on the 15th. I’ll sign somewhere. My goal is to sign [in Phoenix],” Doan said.

While Doan continues to wait for the sale of the franchise to process, he did say he is very optimistic that a deal would get done in the next few days and he would return to Phoenix next season.
