Evgeny Artyukhin freaks out in KHL

Evgeny Artyukhin uh, let his temper get the best of him after a little bump from behind in a KHL game.

I don’t speak Russian, so I don’t really know much of the context regarding this hit in Tuesday’s KHL game between SKA St. Petersburg and Dynamo Moscow. But from what we can all see, it looks like Evgeny Artyukhin was bumped from behind and ... yeah, he didn’t appreciate it.

Artyukhin flipped out. He reached out and grabbed Moscow’s Janne Jalasvaara from behind, pulling him down to the ice before punching square in the side of the head several times. Jalasvaara couldn’t defend himself. He was jumped like it was a back alley, not a hockey rink. And even more surprising? His teammates just stood there and watched.

Officials threw the book at Artyukhin, dishing out minor penalties for roughing and boarding, a five minute major for fighting, a 10 minute misconduct for instigating and a game misconduct. No word on extra supplemental discipline yet, but it seems the incident is being handled well.

So, then, onto more pressing issues: Did SKA rip off the New York Rangers’ Winter Classic jerseys? Yes. Yes they did.
