Blue Jackets vs. Coyotes preview: Phoenix looks for 1st win of season

The Phoenix Coyotes will look for their first win of the season when they host the Columbus Blue Jacktes on Wednesday night.

The Phoenix Coyotes (0-2-0) will host the Columbus Blue Jackets (1-0-1) at Jobing.com Arena on Wednesday night.

Phoenix is looking to earn their first win of the 2013 regular season. After opening the season on the road against the Dallas Stars in a 4-3 loss, the Coyotes returned home to raise their first division championship banner in franchise history prior to a game against the Chicago Blackhawks.

Unfortunately, the celebration was soured by an offensive outburst by the Blackhawks which saw the team score four-consecutive goals leading to a 6-4 victory.

After a breakout year last season, goaltender Mike Smith has struggled in the team's first two games, registering a goals against average of 5.04 and a save percentage of .825.

Columbus will be entering the game after a shootout loss at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings.

Opening the season with a 3-2 shootout win over the Nashville Predators, the re-constructed Blue Jackets battled back from a two-goal deficit against Detroit to take a 3-2 lead in the third. However, Detroit star Pavel Datsyuk tied the game at three, which forced overtime and an eventual shootout.

In the shootout, rookie Damien Brunner awed the hockey world with an impressive attempt that sealed the game in Detroit's favor.

Wednesday night’s contest is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m., ET and will be broadcast on Fox Sports Ohio and Fox Sports Arizona.
