The Oilers used the Flying V, and it kind of worked

Not only did Edmonton use the Flying V, but it ultimately led to a scoring chance. That’s sort of the best thing ever.

We all know that a perfectly executed Flying V results in an arrow right through the heart of the opposing defense, ultimately leading to a goal. The Edmonton Oilers didn't execute it exactly right, but well ... they got a scoring chance.

The clip above is from Edmonton’s 6-3 loss to San Jose on Tuesday night. Down 2-0 and on the verge of being run out of their own building in the first period, the Oilers got in the V formation to break out of their own end. They dispersed once hitting the neutral zone, but for a brief few seconds there, Disney magic hit NHL ice.

The best part, of course, is that Edmonton turned the zone exit strategy into a scoring chance at the other end. Movies are real.
