Devils vs. Capitals preview: Washington’s struggles travel to Jersey

The Washington Capitals have started the season with perhaps the worst start in the NHL, traveling to New Jersey on Friday to face the unbeaten Devils.

USA TODAY Sports

The Washington Capitals head to New Jersey to face the Devils on Friday night, still looking for their first win under new coach Adam Oates.

The Capitals are allowing the most goals per game (4.67) than any other team in the NHL, and remain the lone team in the NHL without a point in this young season. The struggles have carried over to the offense as well, with the Capitals scoring just six goals on the season while killing just 61 percent on the penalty kill.

The New Jersey Devils have started strong this season after their trip to the Stanley Cup Finals, allowing just one goal in wins over the New York Islanders and Philadelphia Flyers. The Devils are once again stifling on defense, giving up just 21.5 shots per game in two wins, yet have shuffled things up on offense with changes on the top two lines on practice on Thursday.

Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. ET with local coverage on Comcast Sportsnet and MSG.
